To light the stove, first ensure the air controls are fully open. Place some crumpled newspaper and kindling wood inside. Light the newspaper and add more kindling as it catches fire. Once the kindling is burning well, add small logs or coal. Adjust the air controls as desired.
The stove is designed for use with wood, coal, and smokeless fuels. Always use seasoned hardwood logs for optimal performance and ensure that the coal is suitable for stoves.
It is recommended to clean the ash pan before each use for optimal air flow and efficiency. Regularly check and empty the ash to prevent it from overflowing.
Check that the air controls are not obstructed and are working correctly. Ensure the chimney is not blocked and has been swept recently. Also, confirm that you are using dry, seasoned wood or appropriate smokeless fuels.
Ensure that you are burning the correct fuel and that it is dry. Keep the airwash control open to allow air to flow over the glass. Regular cleaning with a recommended stove glass cleaner will also help.
Clean the stove thoroughly, removing all ash and debris. Check for any wear or damage and replace parts if necessary. Leave the air controls slightly open to allow air circulation and prevent moisture buildup.
Backdraft can occur if the chimney is obstructed or if there is insufficient ventilation in the room. Ensure the chimney is clear and consider installing a vent to improve airflow.
Start with the primary and secondary air controls fully open when lighting the stove. Once the fire is established, gradually close the primary air control and adjust the secondary to maintain the desired burn rate and heat output.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the stove and chimney, inspecting seals and gaskets, checking for signs of wear, and lubricating any moving parts. An annual professional inspection is also recommended.
While the stove top can get hot enough to warm food, it is not designed for cooking. Use appropriate cookware and exercise caution to avoid damage or injury.
