To start a game, shuffle the deck and deal seven cards to each player. Place the remaining cards in a draw pile, and turn the top card over to start the discard pile. The player to the dealer's left goes first.
Special action cards include Skip, Reverse, Draw Two, Wild, and Wild Draw Four. Each has unique effects like skipping a turn, reversing play order, forcing the next player to draw cards, or changing the current color in play.
To win, a player must be the first to score 500 points. Points are scored by getting rid of all cards in a player's hand, and the points are calculated based on the cards left in opponents' hands.
If you cannot play a card, draw one card from the draw pile. If the drawn card is playable, you may play it immediately. If not, your turn ends.
If a player suspects a Wild Draw Four card was played illegally, they can challenge it. The challenged player must show their hand. If guilty, they draw four cards; if not, the challenger draws six cards.
The Colors Rule allows players to play any number of cards of the same color as a set during their turn. This can only be done if the first card matches the top card of the discard pile.
Officially, stacking Draw Two and Wild Draw Four cards is not allowed. Each card's effect must be resolved before the next player's turn. Variants may allow stacking for house rules.
Players score points for the cards left in their opponents' hands when they run out of cards. Number cards are worth their face value, Draw Two, Reverse, and Skip are worth 20 points, and Wild and Wild Draw Four are worth 50 points.
Shuffle the discard pile to create a new draw pile. Continue play as normal. Ensure the top card of the discard pile remains in place to maintain the game's flow.
Official variations may include different scoring targets or house rules like stacking draw cards. Always agree on any rule changes before starting the game.
