To install the Thule Speedway 961XT, first position it centrally on the trunk or rear hatch. Use the Fit Dial system to adjust the angle of the rack to match your vehicle profile. Secure the top hooks onto the top edge of the trunk and tighten the straps evenly. Follow by securing the side and bottom hooks. Ensure all straps are tight and the rack is stable before loading bikes.
If the Speedway 961XT doesn't fit, consult the Thule Fit Guide to confirm compatibility with your vehicle. If it's confirmed compatible, ensure the Fit Dial is set correctly and all hooks are properly positioned. If issues persist, contact Thule customer service for further assistance.
Regularly inspect all straps and hooks for signs of wear or damage. Clean the rack with mild soap and water, avoiding harsh chemicals. Lubricate any moving parts occasionally to prevent rust. Store the rack in a dry place when not in use to protect it from weather elements.
If the straps are fraying, replace them immediately as compromised straps can lead to rack instability. Contact Thule or an authorized dealer to purchase replacement straps. Regularly check straps for wear and always ensure they are properly tightened during use.
The Thule Speedway 961XT may not be suitable for vehicles with rear spoilers. Check the Thule Fit Guide for compatibility with vehicles featuring spoilers. If incompatible, consider using a roof-mounted or hitch-mounted alternative.
Ensure the rack is securely attached to the vehicle before loading bikes. Load the first bike with the heaviest frame closest to the vehicle. Use the provided anti-sway cages and straps to secure each bike, ensuring they do not touch the vehicle or each other. Regularly check stability during transit.
The Thule Speedway 961XT is designed to carry up to three bikes with a total maximum weight of 105 lbs (47.6 kg). Always ensure that individual bike weight does not exceed the rack's capacity and distribute weight evenly.
To prevent scratches, ensure all contact points between the rack and the vehicle are clean and free from debris. Use protective pads on the hooks and regularly check that straps are not too tight. Consider using additional protective films on the vehicle's surface if necessary.
If the rack sways, stop immediately to check the tightness of all straps and adjust the Fit Dial if necessary. Ensure bikes are loaded correctly and secured with anti-sway cages. Redistribute bike weight if needed and retighten all connections.
When not in use, clean the Thule Speedway 961XT thoroughly and fold it for compact storage. Store it in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and moisture to prevent rust and material degradation. Consider using a storage bag for added protection.
