To install the Thule Prologue 516, first attach the carrier to your crossbars using the included mounting hardware. Ensure that the clamps are securely fastened and that the bike rack is centered on the roof. Follow the detailed instructions in the manual to tighten all bolts and check that the rack is stable before loading your bike.
If your bike doesn't fit, check if the wheel trays and adjustable straps are correctly positioned. The Prologue 516 is designed to accommodate most bike sizes, but you may need to adjust the wheel tray length or use a frame adapter for non-standard frames.
Ensure that the wheel holders and frame clamp are tightly secured. Double-check the tension on all straps and locks. It's also advisable to periodically check the rack and bike during long trips to ensure nothing has loosened.
The Thule Prologue 516 is compatible with most Thule rack systems and many factory-installed crossbars. However, it's important to verify that your crossbars fit within the specified dimensions outlined in the product manual.
Regularly check all bolts and fasteners for tightness, especially before long trips. Clean the rack with mild soap and water to remove dirt and debris. Lubricate moving parts periodically to ensure smooth operation.
The Thule Prologue 516 includes a locking feature on the frame clamp. Use the provided key to secure the clamp around the bike frame. For added security, consider using an additional cable lock to secure the bike frame and wheels to the rack.
If you hear noise, check for loose parts or improper installation. Ensure all bolts are tightened and that the bike is securely fastened. Wind noise can occur at higher speeds, so ensure the rack and bike are positioned to minimize air resistance.
While it's safe to leave the rack on your car, it's recommended to remove it if not used frequently to save fuel and reduce wear. Additionally, storing the rack indoors when not in use can prolong its lifespan.
Clean the rack using mild detergent and water. Avoid using abrasive materials or strong chemicals that can damage the finish. After cleaning, dry all components thoroughly to prevent rust.
If the rack isn't holding your bike securely, inspect all clamps and straps for wear or damage. Ensure they are correctly adjusted to fit your bike. Replace any damaged parts and consult the manual for proper installation tips.
