To thread the Singer 9940, raise the presser foot and turn the handwheel towards you to raise the needle to its highest position. Follow the threading path indicated on the machine, ensuring the thread passes through the tension discs and takes up the lever before threading the needle.
Ensure you are using the correct needle size and type for your fabric. Check that the needle is correctly inserted and not bent. Also, verify that the presser foot and needle plate are properly aligned and that the tension settings are appropriate.
Regularly clean the lint from the bobbin area and feed dogs using a small brush. Oil the machine according to the manual's instructions, focusing on the bobbin area and any designated oiling points. Use only sewing machine oil.
Skipped stitches can occur if the needle is dull, bent, or incorrectly inserted. Ensure the needle is the right type for your fabric and that it is properly threaded. Re-thread the machine, checking that the thread is securely in the tension discs.
To adjust the tension, use the tension dial located on the front of the machine. Increase the tension for tighter stitches and decrease for looser stitches. Test on a scrap piece of fabric to achieve the desired stitch quality.
Place the thread spool on the spool pin and secure it. Pull the thread through the bobbin winding tension disc, then wind it around the bobbin several times manually. Place the bobbin on the winder spindle and push it to the right to engage winding. Hold the thread end and start the machine until the bobbin is full.
Ensure the feed dogs are raised and not lowered for free-motion sewing. Check that the presser foot is down and that the stitch length is set appropriately. Also, clean any lint or debris from the feed dogs.
Use the stitch selection buttons on the machine's interface to choose your desired stitch pattern. Refer to the stitch chart to identify the number corresponding to your selected stitch. Adjust the stitch length and width as needed using the appropriate dials.
Stop sewing immediately and check for any tangled threads or lint build-up in the bobbin area. Ensure that the needle is not bent and the machine is properly oiled. If the noise persists, consult a professional technician.
Check that the machine is correctly threaded and the bobbin is properly placed in the case. Adjust the upper thread tension and ensure the needle is suitable for the fabric type. Clean the machine and check for any obstructions in the feed area.
