Singer 9920 Instruction Manual

To thread the Singer 9920, start by turning the power off. Raise the presser foot and turn the handwheel to raise the needle to its highest position. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin and follow the threading path indicated on the machine, ensuring the thread is seated in the tension disc. Pull the thread down to the needle and thread it from front to back.
If stitches are skipping, first ensure the needle is correctly inserted and not bent. Check that you are using the correct needle size and type for your fabric. Re-thread the machine, making sure the thread is properly seated in the tension discs. Clean the bobbin area to remove any lint or debris.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the bobbin case and feed dogs with a soft brush to remove lint and dust. Oil the machine as indicated in the manual, using sewing machine oil. Always unplug the machine before cleaning or performing maintenance.
Ensure the bobbin is correctly inserted in the bobbin case and that the bobbin thread is pulled through the tension spring. Check that the needle is properly inserted and not damaged. Re-thread both the upper thread and the bobbin.
To adjust the tension, locate the tension dial on your machine. For tighter tension, increase the number on the dial; for looser tension, decrease it. Test on a scrap piece of fabric to achieve the desired stitch quality.
For sewing denim, use a heavy-duty needle, such as a size 16/100 or 18/110. Ensure the needle is compatible with your thread type and fabric weight.
To change the presser foot, raise the presser foot lever and remove the current foot by pressing the release lever at the back of the presser foot holder. Align the new foot with the holder and lower the presser foot lever to snap it into place.
If your machine is noisy, ensure it is properly threaded and that there is no thread or lint stuck in the bobbin area. Tighten any loose screws and ensure the machine is on a stable surface. Regularly oil and clean the machine to prevent noise.
To sew buttonholes, attach the buttonhole foot. Select the buttonhole stitch and adjust the stitch length and width as needed. Place the fabric under the foot, lower the presser foot, and start sewing. The machine will automatically create the buttonhole.
Ensure the feed dogs are raised and not in the 'dropped' position. Check that the presser foot is lowered and the correct foot is being used. Clean the feed dog area to remove any lint or debris that might be obstructing fabric movement.
