To thread the Singer 631, start by placing the spool of thread on the spool pin. Pull the thread through the thread guide and down through the tension disks. Next, thread the take-up lever from right to left. Finally, guide the thread through the needle from front to back.
Frequent needle breaks can be caused by using the wrong type of needle, improper threading, or incorrect tension settings. Ensure you are using the correct needle for your fabric, re-thread the machine, and check the tension settings.
To adjust the tension, locate the tension dial on the machine's front panel. Turn the dial to a higher number to increase tension or to a lower number to decrease it. Test on a scrap of fabric to find the optimal setting.
A knocking noise may indicate that the needle is bent or the machine needs oiling. Replace the needle with a new one and follow the manual to oil the machine at the designated points.
Regular cleaning involves removing lint and dust with a small brush. Remove the needle plate and clean the feed dogs. Oil the machine following the manual's instructions, focusing on key moving parts.
Skipped stitches can occur if the needle is dull or incorrectly installed. Replace the needle and ensure it is inserted correctly. Also, check the threading and tension settings.
To change the presser foot, raise the presser foot lever and release the current foot by pressing the foot release lever. Align the new foot with the holder and lower the presser foot lever to snap it into place.
Jamming can be caused by tangled thread or incorrect bobbin placement. Rethread the machine, ensuring the bobbin is correctly inserted and the upper thread path is correct.
Check if the machine is threaded correctly and the bobbin is wound evenly. Adjust the tension dial and test on a scrap fabric. If problems persist, refer to the manual for further guidance.
Place the thread spool on the spool pin. Guide the thread through the bobbin winder tension disk and wrap it around an empty bobbin. Push the bobbin onto the winder spindle and engage the winder. Start the machine to wind the bobbin.
