To thread the Singer 5560, first raise the presser foot and turn the handwheel to raise the needle. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin and guide the thread through the thread guide. Then, follow the threading path indicated on the machine, ensuring the thread passes through the tension discs. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.
Ensure the needle is correctly installed and not bent. Check if you are using the appropriate needle for the fabric. Also, verify that the bobbin is correctly inserted and that there are no thread jams in the bobbin area.
To maintain your Singer 5560, regularly clean the lint and dust from the feed dogs and bobbin area using a small brush. Oil the machine as directed in the user manual, typically after 8-10 hours of use. Always unplug the machine before cleaning.
Uneven stitches can result from incorrect tension settings. Check the upper thread tension and adjust as needed. Ensure the machine is threaded correctly and the bobbin is wound evenly and inserted properly.
To adjust the tension on your Singer 5560, use the tension dial located on the front of the machine. Lower numbers reduce tension, while higher numbers increase it. Test on a fabric scrap to find the optimal setting for your project.
For heavy fabrics, use a size 16/100 or 18/110 needle. These needles are strong enough to penetrate thick materials without bending or breaking. Ensure you also use the appropriate thread for best results.
To select stitch patterns on the Singer 5560, turn on the machine and use the LCD screen to navigate through the stitch options. Press the arrow buttons to select the desired stitch and adjust the length and width as needed.
If the bobbin thread is not being picked up, re-thread the machine, ensuring the upper thread is correctly threaded. Check that the bobbin is inserted properly and the needle is not bent or damaged.
To replace the needle, first turn off the machine. Loosen the needle clamp screw and remove the old needle. Insert a new needle with the flat side facing the back and tighten the clamp screw securely.
Skipping stitches can occur if the needle is dull or bent. Ensure you are using the correct needle type and size for your fabric. Also, check that the machine is threaded correctly and the tension is set properly.
