To thread the Singer 3800, first raise the presser foot and turn the hand wheel to raise the needle to its highest position. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin. Follow the threading path indicated on the machine, making sure to pass the thread through the tension mechanism and the take-up lever. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.
Ensure that the needle is inserted correctly and is not bent. Check that the bobbin is correctly placed in the bobbin case, and the bobbin thread is properly threaded. Also, confirm that the machine is threaded correctly with the presser foot up.
To adjust the tension on the Singer 3820, use the tension dial located on the front of the machine. Higher numbers increase the tension, while lower numbers decrease it. Test on a scrap fabric to find the optimal setting for your specific fabric and thread.
Check if the feed dogs are engaged and not lowered for free-motion sewing. Make sure the presser foot is down and there is no lint or debris obstructing the feed dogs. Use the correct presser foot for your fabric type.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the machine after each use, oiling the moving parts as specified in the manual, and changing the needle regularly. It's also advisable to have the machine serviced by a professional annually.
First, turn off the machine and raise the needle to its highest position. Loosen the needle clamp screw and remove the old needle. Insert the new needle with the flat side facing the back, push it up as far as it will go, and tighten the needle clamp screw securely.
Unusual noises can be due to a variety of issues. Turn off the machine and check for any threads caught in the bobbin area or under the needle plate. Ensure the machine is properly threaded and consider oiling the machine if it hasn't been done recently.
Skipped stitches can be caused by a bent or dull needle, incorrect threading, or inappropriate thread tension. Replace the needle, re-thread the machine, and adjust the tension setting. Ensure you're using the correct needle and thread for the fabric.
The Singer 3820 uses class 15 transparent plastic bobbins. Be sure to use the same type and size to ensure proper function of the bobbin system.
Turn the stitch selector dial located on the front of the machine to the desired stitch pattern. Refer to the stitch chart on the machine to align the dial correctly with your chosen pattern. Adjust the stitch length and width as needed.
