To thread the Singer 321C, first raise the presser foot and turn the handwheel to raise the needle to its highest position. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin and follow the threading path as indicated in the manual, ensuring the thread passes through the tension discs, the take-up lever, and the needle eye from front to back.
Skipping stitches can be caused by a dull or bent needle, improper threading, or incorrect tension settings. Replace the needle, rethread the machine carefully, and adjust the tension as needed. Ensure the fabric is properly positioned and supported to avoid drag.
Regular cleaning involves removing lint and dust from the bobbin area and under the needle plate using a small brush. Oil the machine at the points indicated in the manual with sewing machine oil. Always unplug the machine before cleaning.
First, check the power supply and ensure the machine is plugged in. Confirm that the foot pedal is connected properly. If the motor still doesn't run, inspect the fuse or circuit breaker and replace if necessary. Consult a professional technician if issues persist.
To adjust the tension, use the tension control dial on the front of the machine. For balanced tension, the upper and lower stitches should lock in the middle of the fabric. Test on scrap fabric and adjust as needed, keeping track of the settings for different fabric types.
Thread bunching, or "bird nesting," is often caused by incorrect threading or tension settings. Rethread the machine, ensuring the thread is properly seated in the tension discs. Verify the bobbin is inserted correctly and the bobbin case is clean.
Needle breakage can result from using the wrong type or size of needle for the fabric. Ensure the needle is fully inserted and not bent. Avoid pulling the fabric while sewing, as this can bend or break the needle.
If the fabric isn't feeding, check that the presser foot is down and that the feed dogs are engaged. Clean the feed dogs to remove any lint. Adjust the presser foot pressure based on the fabric thickness and ensure the stitch length is set appropriately.
To change the needle, first turn off the machine and raise the needle to its highest position. Loosen the needle clamp screw, remove the old needle, and insert a new one with the flat side facing the rear. Tighten the needle clamp screw securely.
Uneven stitches may result from incorrect threading, tension issues, or the wrong needle type. Rethread the machine, check the tension settings, and ensure you're using the appropriate needle for the fabric being sewn.
