To thread the Singer 1306, start by raising the presser foot lifter. Place the spool of thread on the spool pin and secure it with a spool cap. Draw the thread from the spool and guide it through the thread guide at the top of the machine. Continue threading by following the numbered sequence on the machine, going through the tension mechanism, and finally threading the needle from front to back.
If the needle breaks frequently, ensure that you are using the correct needle type and size for your fabric. Check if the needle is inserted correctly, and make sure it is not bent or dull. Also, verify that the machine is threaded properly and the tension is adjusted to suit your fabric.
Adjust the tension dial located on the front of the machine. For most fabrics, a tension setting between 3 and 5 is ideal. Test on a scrap piece of fabric to ensure even stitches. If loops appear on the bottom side, increase the tension; if loops appear on top, decrease it.
Ensure that the feed dogs are engaged; check the lever or switch that raises and lowers them. Make sure the presser foot is lowered, and that there is no lint or debris obstructing the feed dogs. Also, verify that the stitch length is not set to zero.
Oil your Singer 1306 after every 8 to 10 hours of use. Use only sewing machine oil. Clean the machine of lint and dust before oiling. Apply a few drops of oil to the bobbin case area and any other moving parts as specified in the manual.
Skipped stitches can be caused by a dull or bent needle, incorrect needle size for the fabric, or improper threading. Ensure you are using a suitable needle and that it is correctly inserted. Re-thread the machine carefully and check the tension settings.
To change the needle, turn off the machine and raise the needle to its highest position. Loosen the needle clamp screw and remove the old needle. Insert a new needle with the flat side facing the back, push it up as far as it will go, and then tighten the clamp screw.
Unusual noise may be due to a need for cleaning or oiling, a bent needle, or incorrect threading. Clean and oil the machine, replace the needle if necessary, and ensure proper threading. Check for loose screws or parts and tighten them if needed.
Attach the buttonhole foot and select the buttonhole stitch on the machine. Mark the fabric where you want the buttonhole. Place the fabric under the foot and lower the presser foot lever. Stitch the buttonhole in the correct sequence as per manual guidance, and cut the slit with a seam ripper.
Ensure the bobbin is wound evenly and inserted correctly in the bobbin case. Re-thread the upper thread, making sure the presser foot is up to engage the tension discs properly. Check the bobbin tension and adjust if necessary. Clean any lint from the bobbin area.
