To thread the Singer 1 One, first raise the presser foot and turn the handwheel towards you to raise the needle to its highest position. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin and guide the thread through the thread guide at the top of the machine. Continue threading through the tension discs, the take-up lever, and finally through the needle eye from front to back.
Ensure you are using the correct needle size and type for your fabric. Check that the needle is properly installed and not bent. Make sure the needle is inserted with the flat side facing the back of the machine. Also, verify that the thread is not tangled and the tension is set correctly.
Regularly clean the machine by removing lint and dust from the bobbin area and feed dogs using a small brush or vacuum attachment. Oil the machine according to the user manual's instructions, typically at the bobbin area and other moving parts. Avoid over-oiling and always use sewing machine oil.
To adjust the tension, locate the tension dial on the front of the machine. Increase the tension by turning the dial to a higher number for tighter stitches or decrease it by turning to a lower number for looser stitches. Test on a scrap fabric to find the optimal setting.
Turn the stitch selector dial to choose the desired stitch pattern. The stitch number will correspond to the patterns shown on the machine's stitch guide. Adjust stitch length and width if necessary using the respective dials.
Check if the feed dogs are raised and not obstructed. Ensure the presser foot is down while sewing and adjust the presser foot pressure for the type of fabric being used. Clean any lint from the feed dog area.
Turn off the machine and raise the needle to its highest position using the handwheel. Loosen the needle clamp screw and remove the old needle. Insert the new needle with the flat side facing the back and push it up as far as it will go, then tighten the clamp screw.
Skipped stitches can be caused by a dull or bent needle, incorrect threading, or improper tension. Replace the needle, rethread the machine, and check the tension settings. Also, ensure the fabric is stable and not too thick for the needle being used.
Check that the machine is plugged in and the power switch is turned on. Ensure the foot pedal is connected properly. Examine the power cord and foot pedal for any visible damage. If the machine still does not start, consult a professional technician.
Place an empty bobbin on the bobbin winder spindle and push it to the right. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin and guide the thread through the bobbin winder tension disc. Wind the thread a few times around the bobbin and hold the tail. Start the machine to wind the bobbin evenly. Once full, cut the thread and push the bobbin spindle back to the left.
