To perform an oil change, first warm up the engine, then turn it off and disconnect the spark plug. Place a pan under the oil drain valve, open it, and allow the oil to drain completely. Replace the oil filter, close the drain valve, and refill with the recommended oil type and quantity.
Check the battery connections to ensure they are clean and tight. Verify that the fuel tank is not empty and that the fuel shut-off valve is open. Inspect the spark plug for wear or damage and replace if necessary.
To adjust the cutting deck, park the tractor on a level surface. Lower the deck to its lowest position. Adjust the deck wheels so they are approximately 1/8 to 1/2 inch off the ground. Use the height adjustment lever to set the desired cutting height.
Clean the tractor thoroughly, remove any debris, and inspect for damage. Change the oil and filter, add fuel stabilizer to the gas tank, and run the engine for a few minutes. Disconnect the battery and store it in a cool, dry place.
Ensure the tire pressure is equal on all sides. Check that the mower deck is level from side to side and front to back. Inspect the blades for sharpness and replace or sharpen them if needed.
Remove the air filter cover and take out the filter. If it is a paper filter, tap it gently to remove debris. If it's a foam filter, wash it with warm soapy water, rinse, and let it dry completely before reinstalling.
Keep the battery terminals clean and free from corrosion. Ensure the battery is fully charged before storing the tractor. Use a battery maintainer during long periods of inactivity to keep the battery in good condition.
Park the tractor on a flat surface and engage the parking brake. Remove the deck and use a block of wood to prevent blade movement. Loosen the bolt holding the blade, remove the old blade, and replace it with a new one, ensuring it is properly aligned. Tighten the bolt securely.
Excessive vibration can be caused by unbalanced or damaged blades, loose components, or debris lodged in the mower deck. Inspect the blades for damage, ensure all bolts are tight, and clear any obstructions from the deck.
Place the tractor on a level surface and locate the transmission fill port. Remove the cap and check the fluid level with a dipstick or sight glass. Add the recommended transmission fluid if the level is low, then replace the cap securely.
