To start the tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO is disengaged, and the gear lever is in neutral. Turn the ignition key to the 'Start' position until the engine starts, then release it to the 'Run' position.
Regular maintenance should include checking the oil level before each use, changing the oil every 50 hours of operation, cleaning or replacing the air filter every 25 hours, and inspecting the spark plug every 100 hours.
Check if the battery is charged and the connections are clean and tight. Ensure the fuel tank has fuel and the fuel shutoff valve is open. Verify that the safety switches are functioning properly.
Ensure the PTO switch is in the 'Engage' position. Check the drive belt for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Inspect the deck engagement cable for proper tension and adjustment.
To change the oil, run the engine for a few minutes to warm it up, then turn it off. Remove the oil drain plug and allow the oil to drain completely. Replace the plug, and fill with new oil of the recommended type and amount.
Use clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87. Avoid using ethanol blends with more than 10% ethanol.
Ensure the blades are sharp and balanced. Adjust the tire pressure to the recommended levels, and mow at the correct height for the type of grass you're cutting.
Check for debris lodged in the mower deck. Inspect the blades for damage or imbalance. Ensure all nuts and bolts are tightened to the specified torque.
Clean the tractor thoroughly, change the oil, and run the engine to distribute fresh oil. Add a fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank. Remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Cover the tractor to protect it from dust and moisture.
Inspect the steering linkage for wear or damage. Check the tire pressure and ensure it is at the recommended level. Tighten any loose nuts or bolts in the steering assembly.
