To start the Simplicity 2690293 Legacy XL Tractor, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO is disengaged, and the throttle is set to the 'slow' position. Insert the key and turn it to the 'start' position until the engine fires. Release the key, allowing it to return to the 'run' position.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections for corrosion, ensure the fuel level is adequate, and verify that the spark plug is functional. Additionally, make sure the safety switches are not engaged incorrectly and the PTO lever is disengaged.
To change the oil, place a drain pan under the engine, remove the drain plug, and allow the oil to fully drain. Replace the drain plug and remove the oil filter. Install a new oil filter, then refill the engine with the recommended oil and check the oil level with the dipstick.
Use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using ethanol blends higher than E10. Ensure the fuel is fresh and stored properly to prevent degradation.
Ensure the mower deck is level by checking and adjusting the deck leveling rods. Inspect the blades for sharpness and damage, and replace them if necessary. Verify tire pressure is consistent on all wheels to prevent uneven cutting.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the engine oil, replacing the air filter, sharpening or replacing mower blades, checking tire pressure, inspecting belts for wear, and lubricating moving parts as per the owner's manual.
Remove the air filter cover and take out the filter. If it's a paper filter, tap it gently to remove debris. If it's foam, wash it with warm, soapy water, rinse, and allow it to dry completely before reinstalling. Replace the filter if it shows signs of damage or excessive dirt.
Excessive vibration may be caused by imbalanced blades, loose parts, or damaged belts. Check for debris wrapped around the blades or spindles. Ensure all bolts and screws are tightened, and inspect the belts for signs of wear or damage.
Clean the tractor thoroughly, removing any dirt or grass clippings. Add a fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank and run the engine for a few minutes to distribute it through the system. Disconnect the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Cover the tractor to protect it from dust and moisture.
If the PTO isn't engaging, check the PTO switch for proper operation. Ensure the safety interlock system is functioning, as it can prevent PTO engagement. Also, inspect the drive belt for wear or damage and confirm that the engine speed is sufficient to engage the PTO.
