To change the oil, first warm up the engine to ensure the oil flows easily. Turn off the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire. Remove the oil drain plug and allow the oil to fully drain into a container. Replace the drain plug and refill with the recommended oil type and quantity.
Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content as it can damage the engine.
Ensure the battery is fully charged and the connections are clean and tight. Check the fuel level and ensure the fuel valve is open. Inspect the spark plug for wear or damage and replace if necessary.
Remove the air filter cover and take out the filter. If it's a paper filter, replace it if it's excessively dirty. If it's a foam filter, wash it in warm soapy water, rinse, and let it dry completely before reinstalling.
Blades should be sharpened after every 25 hours of use or if you notice a decrease in cutting performance. Inspect the blades regularly for damage and balance after sharpening.
Locate the deck height adjustment lever on the tractor. Move the lever to the desired height setting. Ensure the deck is level from side to side and make adjustments as needed using the leveling nuts on the lift linkage.
Ensure the tires are properly inflated and consider using tire chains for extra traction. Add ballast weight to the rear of the tractor if necessary. Always operate at a reduced speed on slopes.
Check that all safety guards and shields are in place. Inspect the brakes and tire pressure. Ensure the steering and throttle controls are functioning correctly. Verify that the battery is secure and the lights are operational.
Clean the tractor thoroughly to remove dirt and debris. Change the oil and replace the oil filter. Add fuel stabilizer to the gasoline and run the engine for a few minutes. Store the tractor in a dry, sheltered location and disconnect the battery.
Check for debris stuck in the blades or deck. Ensure the blades are balanced and properly installed. Inspect the belts for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Make sure the engine mounting bolts are tight.
