To change the oil, first ensure the engine is off and cool. Locate the oil drain plug under the engine, place an oil pan beneath it, and remove the plug to drain the old oil. Replace the drain plug, then refill with the recommended oil type and quantity as per the manual.
Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87. Avoid using ethanol blends over E10 as they can damage the engine components.
Check the battery connections to ensure they're clean and tight. Verify that the fuel tank has fuel and that the fuel shut-off valve is open. Inspect the spark plug for wear or damage and replace it if necessary.
Remove the air filter cover and take out the filter. If it's a paper filter, replace it if dirty. If it's foam, wash it with soap and water, let it dry, then lightly oil it before reinstalling.
Ensure that the mower deck is level side to side and front to back. Check the blades for sharpness and damage. Adjust the tire pressure to ensure even ground contact.
Check the transmission fluid level and top it off if necessary. Inspect the drive belt for wear or damage and replace it if needed. Confirm that the transmission control linkage is properly adjusted.
Refer to the owner's manual for specific tire pressure recommendations, but generally, front tires should be around 14 psi and rear tires about 10 psi.
Clean the tractor thoroughly and perform all maintenance tasks. Add a fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank and run the engine for a few minutes. Store the tractor in a dry place, and disconnect the battery to prevent drainage.
Stop the tractor and let the engine cool. Check the engine oil level and coolant if applicable. Inspect the cooling fins for debris and clean them. Make sure the cooling fan is operating correctly.
Regularly maintain the engine, including air filter and spark plug changes. Ensure tires are properly inflated and the mower deck is adjusted correctly. Avoid idling for long periods and operate at optimal speed settings.
