To change the blade, first unplug the saw for safety. Open the upper and lower covers, loosen the blade tension, and carefully remove the old blade. Install the new blade, ensuring it's properly aligned on the wheels, then tighten the tension and close the covers.
Adjust the blade tension using the tension knob located on the top of the saw. Turn the knob until the blade is taut and can be deflected slightly with gentle pressure. Ensure it is not over-tightened to prevent damage.
To align the blade tracking, adjust the tracking knob located at the rear of the upper wheel. Turn it while manually rotating the wheel to ensure the blade stays centered on the wheel. Adjust until the blade runs true.
Unusual noises could be due to loose parts, improper blade tension, or dull blades. Check all bolts and screws, adjust tension, and replace the blade if necessary. Regular maintenance checks can prevent these issues.
It is recommended to lubricate the moving parts every 6 months or after about 100 hours of use. Use a light machine oil to ensure smooth operation and prevent rusting.
Always wear safety goggles and hearing protection. Keep hands away from the blade and use push sticks when necessary. Ensure the work area is clean and well-lit, and never operate the saw without its safety guards in place.
Ensure the blade is sharp and properly tensioned. Check the alignment of the guide bearings and adjust as necessary. Use a quality fence and miter gauge for straight cuts, and regularly calibrate them for accuracy.
Check the blade tension and tracking. Ensure the wheels are clean and free of debris. If the problem persists, inspect the wheel alignment and adjust if needed. Replace the blade if it's worn or damaged.
Regularly clean the sawdust from the machine using a vacuum or brush. Periodically check all parts for wear and tear. Lubricate moving parts and inspect the blade for sharpness. Perform a complete maintenance check every 6 months.
The Metabo BAS 317 is primarily designed for wood and similar materials. For cutting metal, you need a suitable metal-cutting blade and should operate at a lower speed. Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines for cutting different materials.
