To thread the Dürkopp Adler 1180, start by raising the presser foot and turning the handwheel towards you to raise the needle. Place the spool on the spool pin and draw the thread through the thread guide. Follow the threading path indicated on the machine, ensuring the thread passes through the tension discs and the needle eye from front to back.
If the machine skips stitches, check the needle to ensure it is not bent or dull and is properly inserted. Verify that the thread is correctly threaded and that the tension is appropriately set. Use the correct needle and thread type for the fabric being sewn.
To adjust the tension, locate the tension dial on the machine. Increase the tension by turning the dial to a higher number and decrease it by turning it to a lower number. Test on a scrap fabric to find the optimal tension setting.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the machine after each project to remove lint and dust. Oil the machine according to the manufacturer's instructions, typically focusing on the hook race and other moving parts. Check for loose screws and ensure the machine is properly lubricated.
To change the needle, turn the machine off and raise the needle to its highest position. Loosen the needle clamp screw and remove the old needle. Insert the new needle with the flat side facing the back and push it up as far as it will go, then tighten the needle clamp screw.
Unusual noises may result from a lack of lubrication, incorrectly inserted needle, or debris in the bobbin area. Ensure the machine is properly oiled, check the needle, and clean the bobbin area to resolve the issue.
Thread bunching can often be fixed by re-threading the machine, ensuring that the upper thread is correctly positioned in the tension disks. Check the bobbin to make sure it is wound evenly and inserted correctly. Adjust the tension settings if necessary.
If the fabric is not feeding properly, check the feed dogs to ensure they are raised and clean. Adjust the presser foot pressure according to the fabric type. Ensure the feed dogs are not worn out and are properly aligned.
To clean the bobbin area, first remove the needle plate and bobbin case. Use a small brush or vacuum attachment to remove lint and debris. Reassemble the bobbin area once clean, ensuring all parts are correctly aligned and secured.
Needle breakage can occur due to incorrect needle insertion, using the wrong type or size of needle for the material, or sewing over pins. Ensure the needle is properly installed, appropriate for the fabric, and remove pins before sewing over them.
