To light the Coleman Fuel Lantern 321B, first ensure the lantern is on a stable surface. Pump the fuel tank 25-30 times, then turn the valve to the "light" position. Ignite a match and slowly bring it to the lighting hole while the mantle is inside. The lantern should ignite. Adjust the brightness as needed.
If the lantern does not light, check that the fuel tank is adequately pressurized by pumping it. Ensure that there is enough fuel in the tank and that the fuel valve is not clogged. Verify that the mantles are properly installed and not broken.
To replace the mantle, first ensure the lantern is cool. Remove the globe and carefully untie or cut the old mantle. Tie a new mantle onto the burner tube and evenly distribute it. Light the mantle to allow it to shrink and harden before use.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the lantern after each use, checking the condition of the mantles, ensuring the fuel cap is secure, and inspecting the pump cup for wear. Periodically lubricate the pump cup and clean the generator.
To clean the generator, remove it from the lantern. Use a brush or cloth to remove any debris or soot. You may need to soak it in a solvent if it is very dirty. Reassemble the generator after cleaning and ensure it is securely attached.
It is not recommended to use unleaded gasoline in the Coleman 321B lantern. Use only Coleman Fuel or white gas to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the lantern. Unleaded gasoline can clog the generator and cause damage.
If the lantern does not stay lit, ensure the fuel is fresh and the tank is properly pressurized. Check for obstructions in the fuel line and that the mantles are installed correctly. Adjust the fuel valve for proper flow and check for any air leaks.
Replace the mantles whenever they are damaged or start to produce uneven light. It is also recommended to replace them at the start of each camping season or after approximately 20-30 hours of use.
It is not advisable to store the lantern with fuel in it for extended periods. If you must store it with fuel, ensure it is in a cool, dry place and the fuel cap is securely tightened to prevent leaks.
A hissing noise typically indicates that the lantern is functioning correctly as fuel vaporizes. If the noise is excessive, ensure the fuel cap is tight, the generator is clean, and there are no leaks in the fuel line or air passages.
