To assemble the lantern, start by attaching the propane cylinder to the base. Ensure the lantern is upright and screw the cylinder into the regulator until snug. Attach the globe and mantle by following the instructions in the manual.
First, check that the propane cylinder is properly attached. Ensure the control valve is open and the mantle is intact. If the lantern still doesn't light, replace the propane cylinder and inspect the igniter for debris or damage.
Allow the lantern to cool completely. Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth. Remove the globe and wash it with soapy water, then dry thoroughly. Ensure all parts are dry before reassembling.
To replace the mantle, remove the globe and the old mantle. Install a new mantle by tying it around the burner, then cut off the excess string. Light the mantle to prime it before regular use.
Disconnect the propane cylinder and store it separately. Clean the lantern as needed and keep it in a dry, cool place. Use the provided carrying case or a protective cover to prevent dust accumulation.
If you smell gas, turn off the lantern immediately and move it to a well-ventilated area. Check all connections for leaks using soapy water. If bubbles form, tighten connections or replace faulty parts.
The lantern can be used in windy conditions, but it's advisable to shield it from direct wind to maintain a stable flame. Consider using a windscreen or positioning the lantern in a sheltered area.
The duration a propane cylinder lasts depends on the lantern's brightness setting. On average, a standard 16.4 oz cylinder can last approximately 7.5 hours on high.
The Coleman Compact Propane Lantern is designed for outdoor use only. Using it indoors can pose risks of carbon monoxide buildup and oxygen depletion. Always use it in well-ventilated, open spaces.
Regular maintenance includes checking for gas leaks, cleaning the globe, and replacing the mantle when worn. Inspect all connections before use and store the lantern properly to extend its lifespan.
