To change the sanding belt, first ensure the sander is unplugged. Locate the tension release lever on the side of the sander, pull it to release tension, and slide the old belt off. Place the new belt onto the rollers, ensuring the arrows on the belt match the rotation direction, and then re-engage the tension lever.
Check to ensure the sander is plugged in and the power switch is in the "ON" position. Inspect the power cord for any damage and ensure the outlet is functional. If the sander still doesn’t start, it may require servicing or replacement of the switch.
To prevent overheating, avoid using excessive pressure while sanding and ensure proper ventilation. Regularly clean dust build-up from vents and around the motor. Allow the sander to cool down between extended uses.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning dust and debris, inspecting the power cord for damage, checking belt tension and alignment, and lubricating moving parts if necessary. Periodically check brushes for wear and replace them if needed.
With the sander unplugged, locate the tracking knob on the side of the sander. Plug in the sander, turn it on, and slowly adjust the knob to center the belt on the rollers. Make small adjustments until the belt tracks properly.
Belt slippage can occur if the tension is not properly set. Ensure the tension lever is fully engaged. Also, inspect the belt for wear or damage, and replace it if necessary. Check the rollers for any debris that might be causing slippage.
Use cloth-backed sandpaper belts that match the size specifications of the sander. Choose the grit based on your project needs: coarse grits (40-60) for removing material quickly, medium grits (80-120) for general sanding, and fine grits (150-220) for finishing.
Unplug the sander and clean it thoroughly to remove dust and debris. Store it in a dry, cool place, and avoid stacking heavy items on top of it. Wrap the power cord neatly to prevent damage.
Excessive vibration may be caused by a misaligned or damaged sanding belt, worn bearings, or debris in the rollers. Check and replace the sanding belt, clean the rollers, and inspect the bearings for wear.
While primarily designed for wood, the Clarke 6462050 BS1 Belt Sander can be used on metal with appropriate belts. Use aluminum oxide belts for metal sanding, and ensure to clean the sander thoroughly after use to prevent clogging and rust.
