To light the stove, ensure that the air vent is open, place kindling in a crisscross pattern, and ignite it. Once the kindling is burning well, add small logs gradually. Adjust the air vent to control the flame.
Check if the chimney is obstructed or needs cleaning. Ensure that the air vents are open and the room is adequately ventilated. You may also inspect the seals on the stove door for damage.
It is recommended to clean the stove and its components, including the ash pan and glass, at least once a month during regular use. The chimney should be swept at least once a year.
Use well-seasoned hardwood logs or approved smokeless fuels. Avoid using wet or green wood as it produces excessive smoke and creosote.
Blackening of the glass is usually caused by burning wet wood or insufficient air supply. Ensure you are using dry wood and adjust the air vent to allow more air into the stove.
To improve efficiency, ensure the stove is regularly cleaned, use dry and seasoned wood, and maintain a good airflow by adjusting the vents appropriately.
Annually, you should sweep the chimney, inspect and replace any damaged seals, and check for any signs of wear or damage on the stove body and components.
The air vent should be fully open when lighting the stove and can be gradually closed as the fire establishes. Adjust it to maintain a steady flame and prevent excessive smoke.
It is generally safe to leave the stove unattended if it is properly set and in good working condition. However, ensure the area around the stove is clear of flammable materials.
If you notice a crack, discontinue use immediately and contact a professional for assessment and repair. Continuing to use a cracked stove can be dangerous.
